How
can we determine what the soul intends for us? What do we mean
by soul? There are many interpretations for it. The esoteric
studies declare man to be a threefold being. The personality or
the objective self is the vehicle for the immortal soul, the Higher
Self, while the soul is the vehicle for the Divine Self, the Spirit
within. Almost all religions teach that man is threefold: spirit,
soul and body. Some teachings go further and say that each again
is threefold. The personality or objective self is threefold: mental,
emotional, and physical.
Certain astrologers have put forth theories for the soul's purpose.
Alan Leo, who studied Theosophy, claimed the next higher degree
of the applying aspect
of the Moon, regardless of the sign, will be significant in the life purpose
of the native. He used the known planets and the nodes of the Moon. Others declare
that the sign and house position of the North Node of the Moon will be important.
Joyce Wehrman through her research with reincarnation charts thought that the
soul's main lesson would be found in the Sun sign. The Tibetan Master, (Djwhal
Khul) through Alice A. Bailey's Esoteric Astrology (p.18) indicates: "The
ascendant or the rising sign indicates the intended life or immediate soul purpose
for this incarnation. It holds the secret of the future and presents the force
which, rightly used, will lead the man to success."
On the same page, the Tibetan Master further states of the Sun sign: "This
sign indicates the present problem of the man; it sets the pace or the established
tempo of his personality life; it is related to quality, temperament and the
life tendencies which are seeking expression during this particular incarnation,
and it is suggestive of the rajasic or the activity aspect of the innate man.
Fundamentally, the forces here found are indicative of the line of least resistance." On
Page 16-17 it further states: "That the Sun sign, as it is called, indicates
the nature of the man, physical, mental and spiritual. It holds the secret of
the personality ray and of the man's responsiveness or lack of responsiveness
to the Soul, the real man. It indicates also the integration already achieved
and the present point of unfoldment of the soul qualities, of the present available
equipment of the present life quality and of the immediately possible group relations."
On page 19 of the same book, the Tibetan Master says of the Moon: "This
type of force (coming from certain planets and not from the Moon) indicates that
which is past. It, therefore, summarizes limitation and the present handicaps.
It governs the physical body and shows where the prison of the soul is to be
found." The Sun and the Moon veil certain planets. For the ordinary person
the Moon veils the hidden planet Vulcan.
I will not discuss the effects of the seven Rays through the signs. That would
be a volume in itself, which Theosophy and the Bailey books extensively cover.
The seven Rays are conditioning energies emanating from certain stupendous Entities
who express through great constellations, solar systems and the planets. These
fiery energies vitalize, color, condition and influence the recipients of these
energies and their kingdoms. All parts are interconnected because the cosmos
is an organic whole which functions as a living organism. Man, the microcosm,
an individual, minute cell, is a part of the great Macrocosm.
Before one begins to ascertain the soul's purpose, the whole chart and the person
should be studied to estimate the point of development of the native and how
he or she uses the energies.
I have found that the house and sign position of the North Node pertains more
to the life's mundane purpose, rather than to the soul's aspirations.
Most Alice A. Bailey esoteric astrologers use the esoteric planetary rulers of
the ascendant and their aspects, to glean the desires of the soul in this incarnation.
Some include the nature and aspects of the planets in the first house. I think
all of these theories should be considered.
We will study some charts with an eye to application of these ideas to see how
the various theories operate. The esoteric rulers are especially used for disciples
and those striving on the path of mastership. The esoteric rulers given on Page
66 of Alice A. Bailey’s Esoteric Astrology are as follows:
Aries
Mercury
Taurus Vulcan
Gemini Venus
Cancer Neptune
Leo Sun
Virgo Moon (veiling)
Libra Uranus
Scorpio Mars
Sagittarius Earth
Capricorn Saturn
Aquarius Jupiter
Pisces Pluto
Vulcan is the intra-Mercurial planet, mentioned in Esoteric Astrology
by Alice A. Bailey. It is always near the Sun as it is within the
orbit of Mercury. There was a limited ephemeris for it by Carl
W. Stahl, called Vulcan, which is out of print and to obtain, however,
Solar Fire software presents what purports to be an ephemeris for
the planet Vulcan, with explanation.
In the chart of JOHN F. KENNEDY, JR, (the son of President Kennedy)
born Nov 25, 1960, at 12:22 AM in Washington DC. (Rodden rating
B) his Moon is 27:24 Aquarius, the highest degree in the chart.
The next higher degree of the applying aspect of the Moon is 2:57
for the Sun in Sagittarius in the 3rd house. This suggests that
ego growth and self-confidence may be expressed through communication,
writing, publishing, studying, teaching and/or the law.
The North Node is in Virgo on the Ascendant. His work should be mental, constructively
analytical, helpful and useful to others.
With his ascendant at 11:34 in the Capricorn decanate of Virgo an awareness
of his critical mind, his inhibitions, and/or insecurity can motivate him to
overcome his limitations and imperfections. The birth of the divine consciousness
will be nurtured through the ability of the analytical mind to discriminate
between what is important and what is trivial, what is real and what is unreal,
between thoughts of the personality and that small intuitive voice from the
Soul. Service motivation is one of the paths that speeds up individual development.
Page 263 of Alice A. Bailey's Esoteric Astrology states that the esoteric ruler
of his Virgo Ascendant is the Moon (veiling Vulcan). It is in Aquarius in the
6th house opposition Uranus. He must use his willpower to resist rebelliousness
and self-will. He must strive to be tolerant, open-minded, unprejudiced, friendly,
humanitarian and progressive in his views. To be unique he is to perceive all
men as brothers under one Father Deity. He must be independent, yet be a conscious
server of humanity, protective of the indigent. True detachment implies the
recognition of the difference between the promptings of the personality and
those of the soul. The ideal is to act as the spiritual Observer and detach
from the desires of the lower self.
With his Sun in Sagittarius, he must be aware of a tendency to recklessness
and to an over-adventurous spirit. Through perfect faith, inner joy and religious/spiritual
devotion he can make spiritual progress. To eventually become the one-pointed
disciple, he has to develop wisdom, sound judgment and intuition. With his
Sun square Pluto, he is to learn how to handle power wisely through his influence
and position in life.
His sister, CAROLINE KENNEDY was born on November 27, 1957 at 8:15 AM in New
York City, NY. Data is from BC; rating AA
Her Moon is at 15:56 Aquarius. The next higher degree of the applying aspect
of the Moon is 21:53 for Venus in Capricorn in the 1st house. She is to learn
self-discipline, humility, responsibility and to develop an all-encompassing
love that warms the insecure, the shy and the fearful. True love is the supreme
emollient for all problems. Appreciation of beauty and art (together with its
artistic expression) is also one of the paths that leads to spiritual attainment.
Her North Node is in Scorpio in the 11th house. She may influence organizations
through financial investments from monies received from her inheritance or
she may work with friends or partner for causes that lead to the goals of the
Aquarian Age, to wit, brotherhood.
The esoteric ruler of a Sagittarius Ascendant is the Earth. With her Sun in
Sagittarius, the earth would be opposite the Sun in the sign of Gemini in the
6th house. She should learn to concentrate her attention on whatever she does.
Mercury in the first house will stimulate mental acumen and verbal articulation.
She must be conscious of not scattering her energy through the critical mind.
There may be a tendency to restlessness. The intellect must be further developed
to be a vehicle for the Higher Mind of the soul. Through communication, studying,
writing, teaching, she can best express the soul's purpose. Her Earth in Gemini
quincunxes Neptune and squares Pluto. Through compassion and devotion she can
learn to subjugate her personal will to that of the Inner Self. Instead of
controlling others, she must learn to control herself.
She is a double Sagittarius with her Sun at 5:03 and ascendant at 20:15 in
the Leo decanate of Sagittarius. Because these energies are on the line of
least resistance, she has a great opportunity in this incarnation to make great
spiritual strides. The great lesson for her is to develop that simple faith
that heals all discord and to be magnanimous and generous. As she becomes adept
at aligning her subtle vehicles through her mind, greater inspiration and inner
joy will be perceivable.
PAUL NEWMAN was born on January 26, 1925 at 6:30 AM EST Cleveland Heights,
OH, 41N30 81W34, AA rating.
His Moon is 1:39 Pisces. The next higher degree of the Moon’s applying
aspect is 8:02 for the Sun in Aquarius in the 1st house. The soul's purpose
is to be a leader, to initiate humanitarian activity, to recognize the true
relationship of men; to serve humanity in some capacity; to be tolerant, self-confident,
unique, generous, progressive, to be people-oriented, to have courage, to stand
up for his principles, even though they might conflict with those of the majority.
His North Node is in Leo on the cusp of the 8th house. His innate desire to
be center stage, can be demonstrated through his creative talents, as through
acting, and the fine arts, to work with his partner in cultivating higher values
and sharing their resources.
With a Capricorn ascendant at 13:13 in the Cancer decanate, great humility
and nurturance should be exercised. Appetites, desires, worries, fears and
old habits have to be examined. The little elemental lives in the cells of
our subtle bodies have to be disciplined. He must learn to be in control. There
needs to be a realization of responsibility not just for one’s family
but towards the world. He has to be conscious of the thoughtforms with which
he is adding to the invisible worlds. Mercury and Venus on the ascendant bestow
intelligence, refined speech, cheerfulness, a loving regard for others and
a sweetness of character. Sun in the first house provides courage, generosity,
self-confidence and a desire to be center stage.
The esoteric ruler of his Capricorn Ascendant is Saturn in Scorpio in the 11th
house. Here Aquarius is emphasized by house instead of by sign. Scorpio is
the sign where the great battle between the personality and the soul takes
place. Before there can be self-mastery, there must be a transmutation/transformation
of the lower nature. As he demonstrates the humanitarian qualities of tolerance
and equality for all, his ability to transmute the lower nature will increase.
Before one can be in control of circumstances, one must first be conscious
of one’s personality reactions. Saturn is in a grand trine with Pluto
and Uranus. It sextiles Jupiter, the Ascendant, Mercury and Venus. He is offered
an opportunity to use his influence constructively to generously benefit others
through, finance, education and artistic endeavors. With Mercury, Venus and
Sun in the first house, his soul will find expression through communication,
writing, acting, painting, music, as a director, producer and/or a trailblazer.
The South Node of the Moon is usually regarded as a lesson area. With the Sun
conjunct it, he needs to overcome any possible overconfidence, self-centeredness
or any desire for power. With Sun square Saturn, he may be too demanding at
times, or overambitious and too authoritative.
WARREN BEATTY was born on March 30, 1937 at 5:30 PM EST in Richmond, Virginia,
(from birth certificate AA).
His Moon is at 23:36 Scorpio. The next higher degree of the Moon’s applying
aspect is 24:13 for Jupiter in Capricorn in the 4th house. For him the soul's
purpose is to be responsible, devoted, benevolent, considerate and generous
towards his family and parents. Through his profession, he may educate the
public on the virtues of family values and unconditional love.
The North Node is in Sag in the third house. His idealism may be meaningfully
expressed through communication: writing, drama, cinema, the media and TV.
In Vedic astrology the third house includes actor, producer, director, writer.
The Moon (veiling Vulcan) is the esoteric ruler of Virgo. It is in Scorpio
in the 2nd house. The path to achievement is through willpower and right action.
He is to become responsive to the inner promptings of self in order to express
what he values, such as art, beauty and power. The Moon trines Pluto. As he
becomes more sensitive to the goals of the soul he will relinquish old molds
of thinking, resentments, and destroy whatever hinders the expansion of consciousness.
Before one can achieve self-mastery one must transmute the passions and the
desire nature into pure love.
His ascendant at 28:20 Virgo (almost in Libra) is in the Taurus decanate. He
is here to express art and beauty, to learn to be orderly and efficient; to
serve in some capacity where justice can be implemented in society. The ideal
is to eventually develop discrimination between the Self and the not-self,
(the personality). A difficult lesson is to be perceptive, but not to be overly
critical of others; to be able to see the shortcomings of others, but to act
as the loving soul. He has to further develop the intellect, but control intellectual
satisfaction which makes the mind a barrier to the soul. As he becomes conscious
of every thought he can direct it to spiritual yearning for the expression
of the soul.
With his Sun in Aries trine Mars in Sagittarius his natural tendency is to
be a leader. According to the Tibetan Master, the soul needs a forceful, intelligent
ego or personality through which to express. Many times, very strong egos are
obnoxious, stubborn, headstrong, difficult to live with and self-willed. These
personalities are in the process of developing their latent powers and virtues.
The rest of us who are normal must be patient with them!
The great lesson for him is to weigh his decisions so that they are not hasty
and to control his quick temper.
